Better Than Ice Cream, Vol. 26 by Wes Keyes

Ok, the other day Steve posted a Phoenix video and I wanted to give everyone a little history of the group and how they tie into some other random group called Daft Punk that some of you may or may not have ever heard of. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Thomas Bangalter, and Laurent ‘Branco’ Brancowitz formed Darlin’ in 1992, a tribute to a Beach Boys song. They released less than 1000 copies of their first EP on Stereolab’s record label Duophonic. Later, an English journalist called their music “a bunch of daft punk” in a review. They decided to create more, Thomas and Guy-Manuel took the name, Daft Punk, as the name of their new group. In 1993 they discovered electronic music and were inspired by its sound. Laurent ‘Branco’ didn’t care for the new sound and left the group to join his brother Christian Mazzalai in his band. In 1996 they officially adopted the name Phoenix. In May of ’09, Phoenix released a new album titled Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. You’ve seen the video for 1901, below is an mp3 of “Lisztomania” remixed by the L.A. duo Classixx.

Hooligans Never Surrender

Brand new video from Don Diablo. Might be the hardest dance song I’ve ever heard. Listen at 2:15 and prove me wrong.

The video was criticized on its violent character by the media long before the official release, after a set video had leaked on the internet. Don Diablo responded on the criticism as presumptuous. Don: ”I think this video gives a good representation of what goes on in my head when I am asleep, it’s like a drug free LSD trip for pros.”

Club Feet

Music for models to do their hair to, Clubfeet met under a single umbrella during an electrical storm in Australia. Doesn’t make much sense now, but not to worry, once you hit play it will all come together. Clubfeet couples soft electronica with clever, haunting, and often humorous lyrics. Think music you can walk down a runway to while banana cream pies are hurled at your face…

What they said.

Club Feet – Choc Bomb

Club Feet – Die Yuppie Scum

Club Feet – Last Words
