The $500,000 Basketball Shot Prank

I have watched a bunch of the pranks from the College Humor prank wars series and some of them are pretty damn good. Now that CH is getting bigger, the pranks are going large scale as well. Streeter pulls off one of the best pranks of all time, in my opinion.

Anyone feel like getting someone with me? Got any ideas? Let’s do it.

Go check the rest of the videos. I’m 100% convinced it’s real.

My problem is the premise that the shooter’s buddy from ESPN guaranteed him getting picked for the halfcourt shot. How could Amir think a $500,000 contest could be given away that easily by a sportswriter?

If the thing wasn’t a prank and the guy actually hit the shot wouldn’t that be a huge scandal? “Disney-ABC employee uses influence to help buddy win half a million bucks”

And have you ever seen a blindfold halfcourt shot before? I haven’t.

Don’t get me wrong, the thing is entertaining – I’ve watched it twice – I just think it was a well-orchestrated skit for CH.

(For the record I’m not convinced the Yankee Stadium one was real either. )

I’m not saying I know the ins and outs of the prank, but it’s really hard to look genuinely surprised, and Amir looked like he just won $500k.

I just don’t see why two guys who obviously were pranking each other in the past would stop pranking each other for ratings on their website. They already have a huge following, they don’t need to make another CH skit.

Watch how bad Amir got Streeter at the comedy club. Why would two 20-somethings fake pranks? Just doesn’t make sense to me.

I think the execution was flawless. I just have a hard time buying the premise of him getting chosen to take the shot.

As for why they would fake pranks – I thought that’s a lot of what the site did, produce humor skits. These guys are getting paid to come up with original content for the site. No?

Sorry I didn’t phrase that well. I don’t buy the premise of Amir going along with the premise.

You’d have to be a complete moron not to think a friend doing that for you would be at worst illegal and at best a very fireable offense.

Amir does not come across as a complete moron.

          • Yeah but it’s been over a year since the last prank.

And they have decided to revisit their on-going series of prank-skits. Good for them; it’s a very clever idea.

I’ve gone back and watched the thing for a third time: Amir gets less convincing each time I watch.

you dont have to buy into the premise of him being chosen for the half-court shot. Amir was the only one that had to buy that, and he did.

The you fucked up, you fucked up chant was the best part of the video. I hope both these nerds get their asses beat.
