Kanye West Disappoints @ Bonnaroo 2008

Just reposting this snippet from the Bonnaroo post…

After Chromeo ended at 3 AM we headed to the main stage to catch the end (or what we thought was the end) of the Kanye show. We discovered that Kanye had not even taken the stage yet. He was supposed to come on at 2:15 AM. We walked over to the main stage and hung out for a while. A long, long while.

Hours passed while people booed and threw stuff on stage. Kanye waited until EVERY OTHER ARTIST at Bonnaroo was finished playing before he started. He wasn’t even scheduled to play on the main stage. He wasn’t even a headlliner. He somehow got Phil Lesh & Friends “moved” off the main stage and took their spot and THEN he made everyone wait. Instead of the 2:15 AM scheduled time he did not start playing until 4:40 AM. Supposedly the lawn was PACKED at 2:15 AM when he was supposed to start, but by 4:40 AM over half the people were gone.

You could see it in his eyes on the jumbotrons. The people standing still, the people walking away, and the people booing definitely affected his performance. Overall the show was mediocre — borderline shitty. People were leaving the entire time and it was the emptiest I saw the main stage the whole weekend. He used his Glow In The Dark Tour Blow In The Dark Tour set, but half of the performance happened when the sun was already up so the lights and the production lost its WOW factor. He was the only person on stage the entire time. No guest appearances, just a really, really tardy Kanye.

Being the huge fan of hip hop that I am I was probably looking forward to the Kanye West show more than any other performance of the entire weekend. It was a huge, huge letdown. During the entire show, he did not address the crowd once. He did all his talking with the “computer” named Jane. After his last song, he put the mic on the ground and walked off the stage. No hello, no goodbye, no encore, no nothing. Definitely the most disappointing show at Bonnaroo 2008. He made tens of thousands of people wait so he could have all the attention. I’m pretty sure he didn’t get what he wanted. I think Kanye’s ego is going to be his downfall.

Rolling Stone did a short article on the show so if you don’t believe me, read it.

Here are some performances. The only one I really enjoyed was Good Life which was performed well after the sun came up.

Kanye West – Heard ‘Em Say

Kanye West – Through The Wire

Kanye West – Good Life

After the show ended and Kanye just walked off the stage, people definitely showed their disappointment. People were yelling all sorts of stuff about Kanye, but I was too burned out and tired to really join in. The next morning I woke up and I felt obligated to voice my disappointment and disdain for Kanye’s attitude and performance. I’m not saying I’ll stop listening to his music or that I wouldn’t try to see him again or that I don’t want thim to put out another album, but on June 15th, 2008, this is exactly how I felt.

UPDATE: Looks like someone caught a little glimpse of the port-o-johns…

And someone else definitely saw it…

All I have to say is that the stage was ready to go at 3:30. That last hour was all Kanye being Kanye: Space Diva. At some point he’ll learn not to leave people (who are on drugs that make them want to dance) in cold dark silence for two hours.

FUCK KANYE I was sober by the time is light shit even started. Kanye should never play at Bonnaroo. Completely ruined it for me. If it was your first time at roo, I understand why you would say, “so what if he was late.” In this case he was EARLY.

And you guys who disagree should NEVER come back to Bonnaroo. Ever again. Please.

Read the entire post, dickface. I love Kanye and I own every one of his CD’s. Of course he SAYS it was Bonnaroo’s fault but couldn’t he have addressed the crowd during the 2 1/2 hour wait? Maybe during the show? Nope. He didn’t address the crowd ONCE THE ENTIRE SHOW AND HE WALKED OFF EARLY.

If you weren’t there don’t say a thing.

oke but kanye really cares about his fans, he whould never let his fan wait so long without doing everything what he can. (sorry if this is not correct engligh)

like he said on his blog: ‘CALL ME WHAT YOU WANT BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL!!!’

Dude I read his blog. I understand he “cares so much” but he should have addressed the fans. He didn’t do ANYTHING while we waited 2 1/2 hours and then he walked off early because everyone was leaving. He can say he gave it his all, but the thousands of people who watched his performance will disagree.

One performance that would have been his biggest of the summer… You weren’t there so don’t talk about it. I can barely understand what you’re saying anyways.

The whole thing was mismatched if he was late or early. The GITD is not meant to have to much crowd interaction because it follows the story with the spaceship blah blah blah. Most of the people there were probably not Kanye fans so I could see why people wouldn’t like dude in the first place. If you saw Jay @ Glastonbury, he had much more crowd interaction. He was really ROC-ing it.
