M.I.A. and Soulja Boy Concert…

First off, I made a mistake in my previous post about the concert. M.I.A. actually was the headliner for the show (thank God). It was still one of the best nights I’ve had all year. Thanks to my dudes for tearin’ it up all night long. Also thanks to Kareem, Nick, Ben, and anyone else who took the camera out of my hands.

We started out the night at Grimers per usual. Drank a few beers, threw some pebbles in the pot and had a nice little fire going. Around 9:00 Ben Kenobi, Ben Smiff, Kareem, Young Zach, Andy Cihla and I cruised down to Newport. We ran into Scotty Cockblock and a few others outside. Shortly after our arrival Soulja Boy took the stage. We took over the right side of the 2nd level and created a mini Get Right with the people around us. It was off the hook! I don’t know why it was so crazy. I think it finally set it that we were actually seeing SOULJA BOY and that was hilarious enough in itself to cause the mayhem. The only thing I disliked was the DJ cutting the record after about 1:30 into each song. The crowd would finally get into it and they would stop the music and do some “which side of the crowd is livest” bullshit and kill the energy. Could have been a lot better without all that garbage.

There was about a 20 minute break before M.I.A. hit the stage. Her entire performance was amazing. The set was crazy, her hype-man-hype-girl combo brought a lot of energy to the crowd, and the setlist was perfect. They basically went from song to song to song without stopping. The music is so high energy to begin with that it made for a true concert experience. We took over a corner on the floor so we all had room to dance. M.I.A. called up girls onto the stage and Kenobi had some sort of revelation. “They are about to call the dudes up on stage. We’re going up front.” Following Kenobi, we made it to the front in 45 seconds. Low and behold M.I.A. called all the dudes up on stage and played Boyz. We immediately jumped on stage and got down Sri Lankan Hyphy style. After the song they kicked us off and let some more dudes on stage. I got a nice video of Scotty shredding up the stage.

After the show we went to Sugar Bar to see M.I.A.’s DJ Low B (him and Diplo make up Hollertronix). All I can say is it was one of the sweatiest dance sessions I’ve ever been involved in.

As always, click more for the rest of the pictures…

The audio on these three videos is horrible because we were so close to the speakeks, but I think Soulja Boy dancing is funny even when muted.

The videos of M.I.A. sound a little better but you can’t expect much from my digital camera.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Check out Scotty on the right!

Ben held his shirt together all night with one finger.

Check out Ben and Kareem!!!!!!!!!!!!!
