Amazing Student Music Video Shot in One Take w/ Live Audio

3 05 2009

This video features the rapper Nyle and a ton of students from his school. Definitely worth watching.

Wayne’s “Let The Beat Build” is still my 2nd favorite track off his album.

MC Hammer – Pumps in a Bump

1 05 2009

THROWBACK!!! I could barely remember the music video when I ran into this. I knew there was a pool and a whole gang of honeys, but I DEFINITELY FORGOT that Hammer was rockin’ the banana hammock. Can’t even begin to describe how corny that is.

8-bit Hip Hop Medley

25 04 2009

It’s been a minute since I played Nintendo. I’ve got a Super Nintendo at the crib, but when you are looking for Super Mario 3 or Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, SNES doesn’t make the cut. My boy Josh put me onto this 5 minute hip-hop medley comprised entirely of 8-bit Nintendo sounds. The first beat is killer! If you can’t figure out the songs on your own, here is the tracklist.

Jay-Z — Dirt Off Your Shoulders
T.I. — What You Know
Chamillionaire — Ridin’
Ludacris — What’s Ya Fantasy
Bonecrusher — Neva Scared
Twista & Kanye — Overnight Celebrity
Ludacris — Move Bitch
Lil’ Jon — Get Low
Kanye — Gold Digger

White Rapper Week

23 04 2009

Brand new track from Eminem. Track is called “3 AM.” Love, hate, discuss, but don’t even try to mess with the flow.

Track jacked from none other than TC (Columbus resident) at The Smoking Section (National hip-hop blog. Get familiar.)

Music Mondays

20 04 2009

I found a bunch of music today so I figured I would throw it all up in one post. The first track is from Talib Kweli and features, in my opinion, the best sample ever in a hip hop song. Obviously there are hundreds of contenders, but this is my personal favorite. Oldie but goodie.

Talib Kweli – Lonely People

Next up we have a BRAND NEW TRACK from Clipse, Kanye West, and the artist KAWS. Not really sure what KAWS has to do with it other than the artwork.

Clipse x Kanye West x KAWS – Kinda Like A Big Deal

Now for the most hated rapper in America, Asher Roth. I know plenty of people have already made up their mind about Asher based on a few mixtape songs. I’m still on the fence (about to listen to the album, it dropped today) so I’ll have my mind made up by this evening. This song features none other than Slick Rick and it’s a UK Bonus track. Listen to this and tell me you’re not at least KIND OF feeling Asher?

Rob Roy // Fur in my Cap

16 04 2009

Spotted this video at Propaganda and Kanye’s Blog and I had to throw it on here. The beat and flow are pretty simple but I really like what they did with the video. Taking a bunch of stills and throwing the “Conan O’Brien” mouth onto the shots really works well. Song ain’t half bad, either.

Fly Union // Gold Chain (On Credit)

13 04 2009

At first I didn’t know what to think about Fly Union. About a year ago I saw them perform at {milk bar} and the performance… left something to be desired. I felt like they were a new group struggling to find their sound. It wasn’t bad, I just didn’t care for it either way. Fast forward to about a month ago, I was surfing 2 Dope Boyz (one of the biggest US hip-hop blogs) and spotted Fly Union on the front page with a track titled “Only One.” The clean, well produced sound surprised me at first, but after listening to a few other tracks, I realized I underestimated the Columbus, Ohio group.

Fly Union – Only One

Today they released a brand new video called “Gold Chain (On Credit)” and I’m feelin’ it. It’s nice to see SOMEONE in Columbus is putting energy into their music and videos and getting recognition for their hard work. You may not like their music, but you’ve got to respect the hustle.

I Can’t Believe I’m Doing This…

13 04 2009

Soulja Boy on The Grip? SMH. I saw this around the blogosphere for the past few weeks but I didn’t give it a chance. I must have missed the FEATURING GUCCI MANE part. DJ Skyler played it at Kareem’s birthday party on Saturday and it kind of grew on me in a Stanky Leg kind of way. This post is for entertainment purposes only. If this is your first time reading The Grip, just pretend you never saw this.

Redman and Method Man // A-Yo

12 04 2009

I’m a little disappointed that people don’t seem to care that Red & Meth are releasing another album. Blackout was and still is one of the best collaboration albums of all-time. I also heard rumors of a How High 2??? Anyways… this track is hot. Can’t wait for the album.

Side note: Red & Meth’s performance at Rock the Bells 2008 in Chicago was by far the best of the weekend.

Cam’ron – Chalupa

12 04 2009

RIP Daymon D.

Another brand new cut off of Cam’ron’s new album Crime Pays, which hits stores May 5th May 12th. We didn’t get to hear any new cuts when he came to Columbus so I’m looking forwarded to the leaked tracks popping up in the next few weeks.

South Park is Still On Point

9 04 2009

The infamous Kanye Clique picture was outrageous enough to get the attention of Trey Parker and Matt stone, the creators of South Park. They did an episode about Kanye that featured a song called “Gay Fish.” You can check out the song over at Propoganda.

Outrageous.

Switch // Diplo // Andy Milonakis – Zumbi

7 04 2009

It’s amazing what auto-tune can do. This track actually sounds pretty good in my opinion. I think that says more about Diplo and Switch than it does about Andy Milonakis. Either way it’s funny as hell and worth a listen.

Lil’ Wayne & Young Money – Every Girl

7 04 2009

I’m usually not into the bubble gum songs (with the exception of The Dream) but the hook on this is catchy as hell. I heard it for the first time at the Cam’ron show. Time to find the MP3!

Eminem – We Made You (Video)

7 04 2009

Eminem is dropping two albums this year. Same with Fiddy Cent (swiped from ADK). I have to admit I was a little excited to see what Eminem would do. This is his second single (assuming Crack a Bottle was his first) and I’m not really feeling this. The video is exactly what you would expect from Eminem but in my opinion the song doesn’t cut it.

Shouts to TSS for the video!

Cam’ron @ Karma /// I Really Mean It

6 04 2009

The hype for this show was unbelievable. Some people in Columbus didn’t think the show would happen, but we all knew Killa would come show Ohio some love. We met up at Martin & Shawn’s loft (sheeked out) to have a few drinks before we left. A special thanks goes out to Odes for helping our crew “blend in” at Karma.

We walked to the show around 10:30 and ended up waiting outside for about 15 minutes in the hype line (they actually had a sign up calling it the “Blame it on the Alcohol” line). They let in 2 or 3 people every 5 minutes or so in order to keep a long line outside the club.

Pete and I managed to get inside for free. Don’t ask me how, that’s just how it worked out. We chilled in the front room for about an hour or so. DJ’s started playing and within minutes the whole floor was packed. The first guy who performed was horrible. He threw about $200 into the crowd (I copped $12). Taking that into account I will rate his performance as average. I think the second guy was named Nemesis and definitely was getting love from the crowd. Everyone seemed to know the lyrics and I was a little pissed that half the city (Brittany Hills, Sullivant Avenue) was feeling this dude and I didn’t know any of his music.  I’ll have to do some research and see if I can get some of his tracks up on The Grip. This guy was on stage the entire night. (Kind of like this video) The cop car outside was murked out as well.

Around 1:15 AM Cam’ron took the stage. By this time the back room at Karma was packed. I don’t really need to say much about his set. Cam killed it. Check the pics and watch the videos ( I suggest watching them in HQ).

Cam’ron – I Used to Get it in Ohio

Cam’ron – Make the Trap Say Ay!

I think dude to the right of Cam’ron ate Dipset.

Cam’ron – Suck it or Not
