Odds of Being a Terrorism Victim on a Flight

The News Bloopers of 2009

As 2009 draws to a close, we look back at some of the year’s most absurd, obscene, hilarious, and just plain wrong anchor bloopers.

Street Wars

Street Art Wars of the Day: 1) Legendary graffiti pioneer Robbo’s Regents Canal piece, 1985-2009. 2) Banksy’s decorator goes over Rob. 3) King Robbo’s “Banksy Bitch Slap” strikes back with quickness on Christmas Day.

From Graffoto:

There is more to the beef than appears at first glance,. In the 2009 book “London Handstyles”, there is a story from Robbo: ‘I was out one night with a load of old writers and got introduced to Banksy. He asked what I wrote and I told him, he cockily replied ”never heard of you” so I slapped him and said, ”you may not of heard of me but you will never forget me”. The truth in the story is evident in Banky’s very pointed taking out of Robbo’s piece, there no mere accident in the placing of Banksy’s decorator.

The riposte from Robbo has been swift and classy. “you use my piece in your shit, I’ll use your shit in mine”.

My guess: This ain’t over.

Fly Union & Big Sean – Poed Up

I have to admit that the first few times I heard/saw Fly Union I wasn’t really feeling them. I didn’t think they were bad, I just wasn’t really feeling their music. Then they released “Gold Chain,” “Only One,” and their 3 Value Packs. Now I feel like the group is heading in a completely different direction than 18 months ago and I’m liking everything I hear. Let’s hope 2010 is as good to them as 1995 was to Montel Jordan.

I’m a bit late on this. Blame the holidays.

Better Than Ice Cream, Vol. 62 by Wes Keyes

It has a population half the size of C-Bus and is located just south of the Arctic circle. Iceland is basically a cold, volcanically active island that looks bad ass and I want to go. There is also a pretty good music scene in Iceland, it sounds exactly how the country looks from most of the pictures. I’m sure everyone is familiar with Sigur Ros and Bjork already, but below I’ve added some mp3′s from some albums I’ve been diggin lately. Parachutes frontman Alex Somers is/was dating Jon Birgisson from Sigur Ros, I don’t really know what that has to do with their music respectively but whatever, probably that they create all kinds of stuff now. Alex has two projects with Birgisson which are Jonsi & Alex and Riceboy Sleeps. Sadly Parachutes is no longer together but you can download their entire collection from their myspace. Sindri Mar Sigfusson started Seabear back in 2000? and released Clangour, a solo album under the name Sin Fang Bous in 2008. A new album from Seabear is expected sometime early this spring. Mum, whom I didn’t include an mp3 for, has been around forever. Their latest album Sing Along To Songs You Don’t Know was released this past summer.

Parachutes – Tree Roots Turn to Forts

Sin Fang Bous – Catch the Light

Seabear – I Sing I Swim

L.e x Passion Pit – Sleepyhead

Brand new track from Columbus’ own L.e. His last mixtape really grew on me and I’m eager to see what he has in store for 2010.

Music trends: NYC Vs. The Rest of the World

I still don’t understand how people can enjoy such bad music. I don’t consider myself a music snob, but you can be damn sure you wont catch me listening to Green Day or Adam Lambert anytime soon.

You Spray, You Pay

A judge in Corpus Christi, Texas, has sentenced 18 year-old Sebastian Perez to 8 years in prison with no chance of parole. The teen was charged with multiple counts of vandalism for tagging local businesses, causing around $7,300 worth of damage. He admitted to a spray-painting spree that lasted from March to August. He gave a tearful plea to 148th District Judge Marisela Saldaña for probation. Instead she had handed down the maximum two years in state jail on each count and stacked the sentences.

Are you kidding me? I understand the judge probably wanted to make an example of him, but 8 years in prison for under $8,000 worth of damage? Way to ruin his life! Why not make him clean up everything he did, and hell, make him clean up half the city! The 8 years he spends in prison will most likely turn him TOWARDS crime, not away from it!

Hopefully his family will be able to file an appeal because I don’t see a decision like this holding up.

Lost and Found by Wes Keyes

Ok, so everyone’s getting ready for the holidays whether you’ve got a road trip ahead of you or you’ll just be hanging around the C-Bus. No doubt you’ll want something to listen to. Sufjan Stevens’ Songs For Christmas is always a good call, but if you’re just wanting a good album I pulled up the collaboration album In The Reins the other day and have kept it in the rotation for the last week or so. The collaboration between Calexico and Iron & Wine that was released back in 2005. The songs were written by Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) with Calexico providing the sound. It’s got a great western feel, like a long stretch of road, perfect for road tripping.

Grip Holiday Happy Hour

Tonight from 6-9 I have a happy hour at Park Street Patio. I know, the bar sucks, but it’s $2 for a 48oz pitcher of beer, sangria, or margarita. Everyone is more than welcome to come by and have a drink.  I think I have to put you on the list, so shoot me a text at 614-946-1388 or just say my name at the door.

Dennis

When Dennis, an introvert bodybuilder, invites a local girl out on a date his mother is hurt and disappointed. Despite the pressure she puts on him to cancel the date, Dennis ventures into a night that he will never forget.

This short film is 18 minutes long, but the character development is amazing and it delivers in ways many full length feature films do not.

Alternate film title: Rob.

Better Than Ice Cream, Vol. 61 by Wes Keyes

Broken Bells is a collaboration between Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and James Mercer of The Shins.  I along with a lot of other people have been waiting for the first single to be released since news of the new project first caught wind.  Well, “The High Road” was released today as a free download by joining their mailing list or you can stream it on their myspace.  The album, which I believe is going to be self titled, will be released in March but is available for pre-order here. How anyone could not be a fan of The Shins escapes me, and Danger Mouse has produced some great albums: The Grey Album, The Gnarls Barkley project, work with The Dutchess And The Duke, Beck’s 2008 release Modern Guilt, and Attack & Release with The Black Keys.

Broken Bells – The High Road

Bob Dylan wrote every popular song of the last 35 years.

The Grip is going to be pretty slow over the next few days unless all these lazy ass guest bloggers decide to put in some work.

Eat your heart out, M. Scott.
