I’ve wanted to post this for quite a while… Everyone knows who Band Of Horses are, and while they’re popularity has gone “Kings of Leon” they still face the challenges that most bands do. They sell out, their music changes and egos get too large, “I’m not making enough” or “I don’t have my own t-shirt” boo fucking hoo… anyways back to my point. I don’t understand how you can have only been “a band” since ’04 and already have 6 previous members. Either way, my point is not to belittle BOH or say how much I’m over their music even though Everything All The Time was an awesome album. Wait… what was my point?
Mat Brooke who was one of the founding members of the previously Seattle based BOH, split from the group in 06′. He formed Grand Archives with many notable Seattle musicians including former Carissa’s Weird bandmate Sara Cahoone, and Ron Lewis who left Grand Archives for The Shins this spring. They released their first self titled album on Sub Pop in 2008 and have just released their second titled Keep In Mind Frankenstein. Below there are a couple of tracks, one from the first album and the second from their most recent album. They’re out on tour, so check their Myspace for dates.

When Ryan McPhun ( yes, McPhun is his real name… I think) moved to New Zealand from California, he started playing with few bands, including The Brunettes before finally creating his own band originally titled Ryan McPhun & The Ruby Suns in 2004. The name has since been shortened to The Ruby Suns and they have also signed with Seattle label Sub Pop, this would probably have something to do with their tour of the states. Unfortunately they won’t be making a stop in C-Bus, but you can check out a couple songs from their second album titled Sea Lion.
