Movie Night Suggestions
Our first Movie Night of 2009 may have been the greatest one yet. Hard Ticket to Hawaii is without a doubt the greatest movie I have ever seen. We are planning another viewing at the end of the summer, so if you missed it you still have a chance.
I’m looking for suggestions for movies to watch for the rest of the Summer. Give me full titles and I will try to find them online. Anything and everything. Maybe include a YouTube link with it so people can watch the trailers. Remember, we like cheesy 80′s/90′s movies like Cobra, Point Break, Road House, Heavy Metal Parking Lot, etc.
Cats Tripping on Kush-Grade Catnip
The cat foaming at the mouth at the 1:10 mark is hilarious. I’ve got a catnip plant growing it my back yard. When it’s ready to harvest, I’m going to lace it with PCP and give it to Darth.
Worm Grunting
Gary Revell gets up every morning before sunrise, heads into the woods and grunts. Not because it’s so early. It’s the term for coaxing worms from the ground by the hundreds to be scooped up and plopped in a tin can until he can sell them for fishing bait. He pounds a two-foot wooden “stob” or stake into the earth and rubs it with a 10-pound piece of flat iron. The vibration or “grunting” causes worms to panic, and they wriggle from the ground. For years it was just a guess why.
Vanderbilt University biological sciences professor Ken Catania wanted to expand on a theory put forth by Charles Darwin that worms may sense moles are pursuing them if the ground trembles. He joined Revell and his wife, Audrey, on a recent expedition and concluded that when Revell rubs the stob, worms do indeed sense that the predators are digging through the earth to eat them. The worms hightail it to the surface, only to be scooped up by Revell for fish food instead.
Wisdom Teeth
I’m getting them pulled in one hour. I expect today to be slow.
*****I have returned from my operation*****
Here are a few texts sent to Lindsay immediately after I woke up. Word for word.

Wale + Gaga + Benzi + Willy Joy = Bangin’ Chillin’ Remix
Wow. I really, really want this MP3. It’s supposed to be released soon. You know where to find it.
Looks like the MP3 came sooner than I thought…

Dollar Art by Mark Wagner
Mark Wagner, co-founder and president of The Booklyn Artists Alliance, makes the most of his money. Using nothing more than an exacto knife and glue, he carefully cuts and trims American currency into works of art.
“The one dollar bill is the most ubiquitous piece of paper in America. Collage asks the question: what might be done to make it something else? It is a ripe material: intaglio printed on sturdy linen stock, covered in decorative filigree, and steeped in symbolism and concept. Blade and glue transform it-reproducing the effects of tapestries, paints, engravings, mosaics, and computers-striving for something bizarre, beautiful, or unbelievable… the foreign in the familiar.”

The Rap Up

Wow. What a weekend. I apoloigize for how slow it’s been over the past few days but I’ve had a lot going on. I quickly browsed through some of the music blogs and grabbed a few MP3′s to share. This is the first 50 track I have felt in a long, long time… Enjoy.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Billy Wingrove
A little kick-up contest between CR7 and Billy Wingrove. Looks like Wingrow’s footskills are a bit more refined than Ronaldo’s. Will we see a lot more of this on the pitch when Ronaldo and Kaka are dribbling their way past defences??
Are Women Born This Way?
I have a soft spot for videos that have babies in them.
Thanks to Molly for the heads up!
Banksy Show in Bristol
Banksy, the world’s most famous guerrilla street artist, is displaying his work from June 13th to August 31st in Bristol, UK. He is showcasing over 100 pieces of work included a burned out ice cream truck and a revision of his famous animal farm and entry is free.
Banksy said, “This is the first show I’ve ever done where taxpayers’ money is being used to hang my pictures up rather than scrape them off.”

Why NOT to Put a Leash on a Cat
I actually saw a girl walking her cat with a leash on campus. The cat was basically jogging to keep up with the girl. The cat was behaving exactly like a dog would and it was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen.
Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island
Wow, can’t wait to see this. Might have to cop it for movie night in the near future. Haven’t seen a good scary/horror movie since I was a kid. Anyone have any good thriller/horror/scary movie suggestions?
♫ We Have Band – You Came Out ♫
Here is more stop motion awesomeness with little more than face paint, mirrors, and whole shitload of patience and time. This puppy was shot over 2 days and edited from more that 4,800 stills. Plus I’m really into this new track, “You Came Out”, from We Have Band, with the vid directed by David Wilson.
Better Than Ice Cream, Vol. 30 by Wes Keyes

OK, this might get a little confusing, so hang on… Spencer Krug formed Frog Eyes with roommate Carey Mercer and released multiple albums together. After moving to Montreal from Victoria, Spencer formed Wolf Parade with Dan Boeckner. The Duo was later joined by Dante DeCaro of Hot Hot Heat. After Spencers move, Carey formed little known Blackout Beach but Frog Eyes still performs with and without Spencer. While a member of Wolf Parade, Spencer had various side projects, including instrumental trio Fifths of Seven and the group Sunset Rubdown. Sunset started as a solo act but has became a functional group. Now, back to Wolf Parade for a second. Guitarist Dan Boeckner formed Handsome Furs with his fiance Alexei Perry, but still tours with WP. Boeckner also played on Islands debut album. See my earlier post about Islands and Human Highway. To further complicate things, Carey Mercer and Spencer Krug joined up with Dan Bejar to form Swan Lake. Dan is a member of The New Pornographers, and records some semi-solo material under the moniker Destroyer. I don’t know how in the hell any of these guys can remeber which group they’re playing/touring with at any given moment. Pick a group! or dissolve them all and create a Canadian indie rock orchestra and put out an album. That was only a joke, but could be pretty cool… Either way, they all put out great music. There are a few tracks below, but every album is worth a listen. F-ing Canadians!!!
Swan Lake – Settle on Your Skin
Sunset Rubdown – Nightingale/December Song
Destroyer – Dark Leaves Form a Thread
Handsome Furs – Thy Will Be Done
