Pick The Perp

PickThePerp.com is a great way to kill time. They give you 5 different mugshots and you have to pick which one was guilty of the listed crime. I’m normally pretty bad at picking the correct perp, but I’m money when it comes to DUI charges.

Hungry Tiger Pounces on Motorcyclist

A hungry tiger has been captured in Russia – after it was run over when it tried to pounce on a motorbike rider. The big cat leapt at the biker as he drove along the road in Vyazemsk, Russia, but was hit in mid-air by a car.
“It just ran right in front of me – I hit it just as it was about to leap on the bike rider,” the driver of the car told local media. Vets say that the tiger had probably been driven to stalk populated areas after running out of food. Wildlife experts were able to sedate the cat run-over, which had sustained minor leg injuries, and have now taken it to a local zoo.
Keepers estimate that the animal hadn’t eaten for a month – possibly after becoming ill and being unable to catch its prey. However, they say that it is now recovering.

Will Ferrell & Bear Grylls – Men vs. Wild
In the harsh arctic tundra of Sweden, Bear Grylls and Will Ferrell set out to conquer the wilderness… together. See if they make it out alive. This could be some amazing television. I will definitely have my DVR set. First show is June 2nd at 10 PM on Discovery.
Diddy Says Today is “Give a Hater a Hug” Day
Today is the perfect opportunity to reach out to a hater near you. The first two people to get thug hugs from me would be Jimmy and Kareem. Those two are the most diabolical haters on the planet. Don’t know how to give a thug hug? Urban dictionary explains it best.

Better Than Ice Cream, Vol. 28 by Wes Keyes

This past weekend in eastern Washington was Sasquatch Music Festival. I went last year and it was a blast, the weather was amazing and I heard it was the same this year. I’m extremely disappointed I missed it, next year I will not… With an absolutely crazy line-up I don’t see how you could possibly choose to see one performance over the other. Notable performances include; Santogold, Grizzley Bear, Fleet Foxes, Girl Talk, Chromeo, The Walkmen and Of Montreal. Here are a few samples from some of my favorite artists who performed this year. Enjoy your weekend…
Shearwater - Austinites Will Sheff and Jonathan Meiburg of famed Okkervil River, formed Shearwater in 2001 as an outlet for a quieter sound. Below is “The Snow Leopard” from 2008′s album Rook, also check out 07′s release, the acclaimed Palo Santo.
Crystal Castles – 2004 saw the forming of Toronto duo Crystal Castles. After various singles and EP’s, Crystal Castles’ self titled album was released in 2008. The Track below is titled “Knight”. They’ll be touring Europe until their appearance at Lollapalooza and L.A.’s Hard Festial in August.
The Dodos – I could do an entire post on them. Meric Long and Logan Kroeber formed San Francisco’s The Dodos in 2006. One of my favorite albums Visiter was released last year. Also embarking on a European tour, we can catch up with them this summer in their hometown for Outside Lands Fest, and later at Austin City Limits Festival.
Gogol Bordello – I’m not exactly sure how to explain Ukrainian Gypsy Punk… Nevertheless, I’ve seen them a few times and they put on a great show. They released Super Taranta in 2007, It’s a really fun album. If you’re lucky enough to catch them in either Chicago or Boston over the next few days, DO IT! otherwise, wait until they get back from Europe later this summer.
Gogol Bordello – Wonderlust King
Kanye West – Paranoid (Video)
Supposedly Kanye is pretty pissed that this video leaked. Don’t expect the video to work for too long. I’m not sure what type of concept Kanye was going for, but it works. It’s basically Rihanna dancing by herself for 3 minutes. Not mad. Not mad at all.
Spotted at the Subterranean Madhouse.
Movie Night Feature: The Corpse Corps
Movie night needs to be revived ASAP. I think next weekend would be the perfect fit. Maybe June 5th before Get Right??? Let me know who is interested. We’ll work on finding this movie ASAP.
Ben & Claire’s Baby Shower This Friday!
Once upon a time Ben and Claire had a “romp” and for the past 8 months a small person has been growing in Claire’s stomach. Soon this baby boy will erupt into our universe and become the beastliest thoroughbred any of us have ever witnessed. Predictions are a many on what type of specimen this union of flesh will produce but my guess is a straight douglas will awaken and floss upon us all.
Party will be this Saturday the 30th, 3pm at Jimmy, Natalie & Kareem’s house. We’re doing food potluck style, so bring something for the grill or a side dish. If you want to floss out this young baller, they’re registered at Target, Babies”R”Us and Buy Buy Baby. Everyone is welcome to come!

What a Knockout
Getting knocked out is embarassing enough, but laying on the canvas and continuing to throw left jabs is downright hilarious. He has absolutely no control over his body and he is making a complete fool of himself. Kilt ‘em.
The New Pistol Pete – Ricky Rubio
Ricky Rubio is a 17 year old basketball phenom hailing from Spain. He is projected to be a top 5 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. He already has his own custom pair of Nike shoes. I can’t wait to see what he’ll do against the greatest players in the world, hopefully he will live up to the hype.
Say Word?

These are just some random songs that I stumbled across today and kind of caught my ear. I don’t know anything about the artists and I don’t feel like Googling them. I’m extra lazy today. The first song doesn’t really get going until about 2:30 in so give it a chance.
Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy (Grum Remix)
The Penelopes – Stuck in Lalaland
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (Video)
Brand new music video from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I’m pretty sure tickets are still available for their show tomorrow night (05/28) at the LC.
The History of the Boombox
Before iPods (or even CDs) there were boomboxes. It’s been 20 years since they disappeared from the streets, but the nostalgia they evoke is about more than stereo equipment. The ghetto blaster is one of the first true symbols of hip hop. This piece from NPR is about 10 minutes long and it’s a great throwback to the way things used to be.
Blamma! Blamma! – Collide Sparks
This video isn’t new or anything, but it does feature a lot of stuff colliding in slow motion, including two really fat dudes. Be prepared for a lot of flappy skin. It’s not pretty.
Episode of Tiny Toons Banned: They Get Drunk, Steal a Car
Tiny Toons, Duck Tales, The Tick, Eek! the Cat, and Animaniacs were my favorite cartoons when I was growing up. I also liked the Batman cartoon. Anyways, I can’t really understand why they banned this episode of Tiny Toons. The funny thing is, it’s hardly worse than some of the stuff in Dumbo (he gets totally trashed and sees a whole herd of pink elephants). And that’s considered a classic. I like how after a few drinks from the bottomless, always cold bottle of “beer,” they turn into hobos and go on a crime spree.
Straight Up Crazy Ubran Gymnast
I remember how tight it was when I learned how to do backflips with about a 60% success rate. Half the time I would twist my ankle or land on my knees, but I didn’t care. I felt like a superhero. With the exception of a few corny moves, this guy is the closest a human will ever get to being Spiderman. His name is Damien Walters and he’s a beast. Prepare to have your mind blown.
Cocaine Found in Red Bull Cola?

Six German states have banned Red Bull after lab tests turned up trace amounts of coca leaf extracts in the beverage. According to authorities, the substance requires the beverage to be classified as a narcotic, requiring a license for sale. (Of course, even Coca-Cola didn’t become entirely cocaine-free until 1929.) From BBC News:
(Red Bull) said coca leaf extracts were used worldwide as a natural flavouring, and that its own tests had found no traces of cocaine.
The illegal cocaine alkaloid – one of 10 found in coca and representing only 0.8% of the plant’s chemical make-up – is chemically removed before use, as mandated by international anti-narcotics agencies.
“There is no scientific basis for this ban on Red Bull Cola because the levels of cocaine found are so small,” Fritz Soergel, the head of the Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research in Nuremberg, Bavaria, told Time magazine.
“And it’s not even cocaine itself. According to the tests we carried out, it’s a non-active degradation product with no effect on the body. If you start examining lots of other drinks and food so carefully, you’d find a lot of surprising things.”
