Better Than Ice Cream, Vol. 20 by Wes K.

DC, Ohio, NY… What do these places have in common you may ask? DC natives Jamie Krents, Nick Stumpf and Matthew Stinchcomb all attended Oberlin College before moving to NY and joining up with Josh Wise, thus creating French Kicks. Fast forwarding a little, Krents left and Nicks younger brother took his spot. Nick stopped playing drums to concentrate on vocals, and after many temps they settled on Aaron Thurston. Not wanting to end the soap there, Stinchcomb left the band in 2005. Whew!!! Alright, now for the music. French Kicks have released numerous EP’s and full lengths, their most recent being Swimming. I like tracks “Abandon” and “Sex Tourists”, which I’ll put below. They’ve also come out with a covers EP titled, well…. Covers, which was recorded in the spirit of the Beach Boys’ Party! record.

Rob Roy // Fur in my Cap
Spotted this video at Propaganda and Kanye’s Blog and I had to throw it on here. The beat and flow are pretty simple but I really like what they did with the video. Taking a bunch of stills and throwing the “Conan O’Brien” mouth onto the shots really works well. Song ain’t half bad, either.
Susan Boyle’s Amazing Performance on Britain’s Got Talent
I’ve been trying to find an embeddable video of this for the past few days and I finally found one. Susan Boyle walks on stage and no one, not even the audience, gives her a chance. Once the performance begins, she changes their minds instantly. The video is powerful and touching. Last year the same thing happened to a gentleman named Paul Potts, and his performance seriously brings tears to my eyes.
Shouts to Rob and Michelle for the idea!
New Gucci Ad: Flora
This ad was directed by Chris Cunningham. He does amazing work. Many people are not familiar with his work so I might post up a few of his videos later in the day.
Biggie, Biggie, Biggie, Can’t You See?
Every single word of the song hypnotize is used in this picture.

There is Nothing Good on the Internet Today
Trust me, I checked.
Jamiroquai – Canned Heat (Calvin Harris Remix)

This song is actually kind of old, but it’s Wednesday, I’m tired, and I need something to get me going. This song does just that. I wonder what song Jamiroquai was listening to when he wrecked this Lamborghini?
I need to add some Jamiroquai songs to the iPod. Suggestions?

Better Than Ice Cream, Vol. 19 by Wes K.

Today we’re going with English band Doves. They’ve been around in some form or another since 85′ but as with a lot of bands, they grow, change their sound, members leave and new ones join. So, with all that being said, 1998 brought Doves back into the spotlight with a new sound that was working for them. Back on top of their game, Doves have put out their fourth studio album titled Kingdom Of Rust earlier this month. In my opinion, the new album is better than their old stuff. There are two tracks below, one from 2002′s The Last Broadcast which topped UK album charts, and another from their latest release Kingdom Of Rust. They’ll be doing about 17 shows around the US and Canada early this summer, here are a couple of dates….
May 16- The Wiltern- LA
May 18- The Fillmore- San Fran
May 22- Wonder Ballroom- Portland
May 23- Sasquatch Festival (east of Seattle)
May 29- Vic Theatre- Chicago
June 4- Terminal 5- NY
June 7- House Of Blues- Boston
Man Survives Five Story Fall — Twice

Moscow – A Russian man survived after downing three bottles of vodka Hennessy and leaping from a fifth-floor balcony – twice. Alexei Roskov says he jumped the second time because he couldn’t take his wife’s nagging about the first time.
Roskov’s wife, Yekaterina, had watched in horror as her drunken husband opened the kitchen window of their Moscow apartment, and hurled himself out. Astonishingly Roskov, 22, survived and managed to stagger back upstairs with barely a scratch after the fall. But while his wife called for an ambulance and began to scold him, he jumped again.
Amazed medics treated Roskov for minor cuts and bruises before releasing him. Roskov says he is now 100-percent sober after giving up drinking, and added: “Now I can say just one thing – I was very lucky. “I have no idea why I jumped the first time but when I came back up and I heard my wife screaming angrily at me I thought it was best if I left the room again – out of the window.”
Props to JB for the story.
How to Eat 40 Pizza Rolls in 2 Minutes
USA! USA! USA!
This kid is basically out of breath 10 seconds into the video. That heavy panting made me kind of uncomfortable. It ends up taking about 4 minutes, but hey, at least he tried! Washing it all down with an ice cold Smirnoff is a nice touch.
I Can’t Believe I’m Doing This…

Soulja Boy on The Grip? SMH. I saw this around the blogosphere for the past few weeks but I didn’t give it a chance. I must have missed the FEATURING GUCCI MANE part. DJ Skyler played it at Kareem’s birthday party on Saturday and it kind of grew on me in a Stanky Leg kind of way. This post is for entertainment purposes only. If this is your first time reading The Grip, just pretend you never saw this.

Samuri Sword SKIZZILZ

Isao Machii might be the greatest swordsman in the world. In the following video he slices through an egg, a mushroom, a green bean, and a paintball that was fired at him. The video is around 10 minutes long but you can jump around and see the slo-mo shots of each cut. Ridiculous.
Redman and Method Man // A-Yo
I’m a little disappointed that people don’t seem to care that Red & Meth are releasing another album. Blackout was and still is one of the best collaboration albums of all-time. I also heard rumors of a How High 2??? Anyways… this track is hot. Can’t wait for the album.
Side note: Red & Meth’s performance at Rock the Bells 2008 in Chicago was by far the best of the weekend.
Cam’ron – Chalupa

RIP Daymon D.
Another brand new cut off of Cam’ron’s new album Crime Pays, which hits stores May 5th May 12th. We didn’t get to hear any new cuts when he came to Columbus so I’m looking forwarded to the leaked tracks popping up in the next few weeks.
