Don’t Let Nancy’s Home Cooking Go Bankrupt!!!

My friend Conor Malloy started a movement to help save Nancy’s Home Cooking. If you are from Columbus, you know about Nancy’s. Here is his writeup and a video from AliveTV. You can join the Facebook group here.

“I got a sad bit of news when I read in the Dispatch that one of Columbus’ true restaurant staples, Nancy’s Home Cooking was closing it doors as of June 1st, 2009. I’m sure many of you felt the same, and if you haven’t heard until now then I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The reason for the closing makes the news all that sadder, as Cindy King essentially says that her mounting medical bills and bad business sense (running Nancy’s “with her heart, and not her head” by giving cheap meals to everyone, and free meals to those who had nothing etc) have driven her into bankruptcy. It made me think of the ridiculous amounts of under priced meals I have eaten at Nancy’s over the years. I then thought about the ridiculously overpaid job I had there during college washing dishes.

I realized I would certainly be visiting Nancy’s to eat, but I was also going to due my part in putting some money back in Cindy’s pockets. I also thought Facebook would be a great tool to try to get others to do the same. I would love to see how much our community really cares for this little diner. I’m asking that everyone go to Nancy’s Sunday April 26th (don’t forget they stop serving at noon on Sunday!) and pay for your meal what you would guess you owe after years of cheap food. If this means $20 great, if this means $10,000 even better. If there’s a line, wait or just leave a donation.

Get behind this people! And please don’t go just that Sunday! Visit this gem as many times as you can until June 1st! Bring anyone you ever told “you have to try Nancy’s.” If you are displaced feel free to email me about sending a check in Nancy’s or Cindy’s name. If we can’t save the restaurant we can help those who sacrificed for our gluttony for all these years!”
