Quit Smoking Cigs, Start Smoking Smarties
I hope doctors across the world start recommending this to their patients. The world would be a much better place if people were walking around smoking Smarties. His YouTube name is ballerboy4life and his description of the video is priceless:
“Yo this video is for all my smokers out there. Quit cigs and start the smarts.”
Tilt-Shift Photography Timelapse
Tilt-Shift miniature faking is a creative technique whereby a photograph of a life-size location or object is manipulated to give an optical illusion of a photograph of a miniature scale model. Altering the focus of the photography in Photoshop (or similar program) simulates the shallow depth of field normally encountered with macro lenses making the scene seem much smaller than it actually is.
In addition to focus manipulation, the tilt-shift photography effect is improved by increasing color saturation and contrast, to simulate the bright paint often found on scale models. Most faked tilt-shift photographs are taken from a high angle to further simulate the effect of looking down on a miniature. The technique is particularly effective on buildings, cars, trains and people.
Hip Hop Flip Flop Pop Off
I know the video has been around for a minute but I’m still laughing every single time I see it. I love how the guy kneeling at the computer doesn’t flinch for a second while it goes down. Plus the kid definitely puts his hands back down on the treadmill just as the video ends. I wonder if he got broke again?

The Worst Robbery Attempt Ever
I can’t remember if I have already posted this but it’s funny enough to be posted every single week. I have never seen such a pathetic attempt at thievery in my entire life. The first fall outside is just a taste of things to come. The fall through the ceiling is amazing. At least two or three bottles of liquor roll of the shelf and onto his face. Then he gets up, gets a shopping cart, and picks out what he wants to steal. His second fall during his escape attempt is icing on the cake. I wish I knew who this guy was. I would love to send him letters in jail and try to get The Grip’s first exclusive interview with a convicted felon.
Extreme Sheep LED Art
These shepherds took to the hills of Wales armed to the teeth with sheep, LEDs and a camera, to create a huge amazing LED display. Of sorts.
Thanks to Molly for the link!
Brian Dettmer’s Book Sculptures
Atlanta-based artist Brian Dettmer creates marvelous sculptures by performing surgery on books. He has a show opening April 3 at Chicago’s Packer Schopf Gallery. The gallery kindly sent a few sneak peeks at the new work.
Thanks to BoingBoing for the pics.

RIP Beta Movement

Beta Movement is no more. After rocking Columbus for about a year they are now pursuing other projects. Garrett was kind enough to send me over an unreleased Beta Movement album titled Maskulation. You can download the entire album here or you can listen to one of the tracks below.
Stephen Colbert Talks About Twitter, Says Twat
How awesome is that.
Tabi Bonney – Rich Kids
New video from DC’s Tabi Bonney.
I heard rumors he’s rapping about The Grip on his next album… Sike.
Join My ESPN Streak Group
I’ve never really checked ESPN all that often but I’m definitely hooked on this Streak thing. Every day you have 10-15 different games/match ups you can pick from. Here are a few examples from today’s possible picks:
- Who will have a larger margin of victory? #6 UCLA
(vs. VCU) or #5 Illinois (vs. W. Kentucky)? - Which player will have a higher total? Stephen Jackson (GS) points + assists or Kobe Bryant (LAL) points?
- Who will win this match up? #9 Butler vs. #9 LSU?
There are different sports/games/matches every single day and it’s a great way to kill time. If you ever get lucky enough and reach a streak of 27 correct picks in a row YOU WIN $1 MILLION DOLLARS. There have been a few people who have reached 26 but they each lost on their 27th pick. Currently the highest streak is 16.
Right now The Grip group has 2 members: Lindsay and I. We both have streaks of 3.

“In The Double O I Represent the C-O”

New track from Cam’ron. Not as good as the last 2 tracks he has released but I’m not complaining.
Grimer’s 1st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Bash Photos
I’m done taking them on a mass scale at Columbus events since other people are blowing that up but I might as well take them during the lowkey events when all our friends are around. I looked through some of last summer’s pics and it was amazing.
I only snapped a few but I’ll try to get more in the next few weeks.

This Would Only Happen to a White Guy
Damn! I totally thought he was going to break his neck but instead he runs down the floor laughing at himself.
New PUMA Ad Campaign is Dope
I’m feeling all the projection art I’m starting to see everywhere. I liked how they were both just in underwear but it looked like they had clothes on for the entire video.
“I Rocked Polaris Amphitheatre With Pantera.”
After a tough day at work I headed to Bodega for a beer with some friends. While standing on the patio I look across the street and see a guy with dreads to his stomach, red sunglasses, and a bright ass Jeff Gordon NASCAR jacket setting up a boombox and a keyboard. After his rig is complete, he throws on some sort of techno/rock instrumental and begins to rock out. I immediately walk across the street and start watching.
He starts talking to me and says it has been a year since he rocked out the Polaris Amphitheatre with Pantera. He thanked me for coming and told me that this was his first “off-stage” performance ever and to excuse him because he was a little nervous. He started talking about performing live, aliens, and dancing with Pantera. That is when I started filming.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH YEAR:
“So, I see Pantera, they’re like, “Hell yeah you rock!” And I’m like, come on stage! Come on stage! We all start doing synchronized dances together, like… We like, started smackin’ it. The Will Smith move. You might not think it, but Pantera are actually pretty good dancers. They’re pretty sweet. Never seen nothing like it.“
Once the song ended he told me how the green lights he saw were from a space ship.
“The lights and the music combined to bring aliens to earth. It was a big ass space ship. Not that big, because it fit on the stage.”
He put on another track and began to shred the keyboard. About seven seconds later I realized the keyboard wasn’t plugged in and he wasn’t playing the music, just pretending to. His second performance lacked the energy I needed. I lost interest and went back to the bar.
Hopefully he becomes a Short North regular. His routine has all the right ingredients.
Insane 28 Days Later Style YouTube Movie
YouTube is going expose an entire generation of directors and producers to the world and we are going to have better movies because of it. This 9 minute movie is not groundbreaking but it is very well done.
Definitely watch this in high quality. I might even suggest going to the YouTube page itself so you can view the widescreen.
Suburban Thug Life

A few old friends of mine have started a small Columbus skateboarding site.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE GRIP!!!

Today marks The Grip’s first birthday! One year ago today Eric @ ADK sent me a link to his blog and suggested I start one of my own. I don’t think either of us expected it to turn into this. Thanks to all the loyal readers out there for supporting The Grip. Keep reading, commenting, and sharing Grip links with your friends. I’m looking into hosting the site myself so I can have more control over the design of the page. Let’s hope everything goes smoothly and according to plan.
