“The BART police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man on an Oakland train platform and then refused to explain his actions to investigators was arrested Tuesday in Nevada on suspicion of murder, authorities said.
Johannes Mehserle, 27, of Lafayette was taken into custody in Douglas County, Nev., said Deputy Steve Velez of the Douglas County sheriff’s office. The arrest was also confirmed by David Chai, chief of staff to Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums.
Mehserle was arrested in the New Year’s Day shooting of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old supermarket worker from Hayward who was lying facedown after being pulled off a BART train by police investigating a fight. An Alameda County judge signed an arrest warrant alleging murder, and Mehserle surrendered without incident, authorities said.
The shooting, which was recorded by passengers in videos widely circulated on the Internet and television, prompted public outrage, and some viewers said that the shooting appeared to be an execution.”

The SFGate wrote, “Mehserle’s resignation means he does not have to answer questions about the shooting from BART internal affairs investigators.”
Johannes Mehserle, the officer who shot and killed Oscar Grant as he lay face down on the ground, has resigned from his position with the police force. For the past week there have been riots in Oakland, California, during the fallout after the shooting. Reports show that they are investigating whether or not the officer confused his weapon with his stun gun.
The Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff plans to move as quickly as possible towards criminal charges.
CONFUSED HIS WEAPON FOR A STUN GUN? That kid was laying face down on the ground and you shoot him in the back? If someone, ANYONE, who had a permit for a gun pulled it out, shot and killed someone, and claimed it was an “accident” would be on his way to prison. This entire situation makes me sick to my stomach.
I hope to god your comunity don’t let this go. Yall should demand Johannes Mehserle’s head on a platter. Instead they have been moving him from spot to spot protecting him, because when any of the other officers get into the same perdicament they will do the same. Stand together in brotherhood at all cost even if you are protecting a murdering cop. Actions speak louder than words. Oakland PD and BART, internal affairs all law invorcement in that jurice diction condone the actions by Johannes Mehserle by hiding him, not charging him, still paying him, not interigating him, and when asked guestions on interviews on tv and other acting like you can’t see the video that we all seen, and lets wait, and lets calm down. For what? can you amagine the swiftness of action if Oscar was the one holding Johannes faced down and shot him! There would be a statewide man hunt, and the people that helped him get away and hide would be charged the same.Why is it different for them? I beg you for all the weak that can’t fight, that can’t speak, don’t let them shush you like a child. May God give you the strength!

Seriously, this was a huge mistake and i think the response by the GOVT is right. The officer is DONE and now he’s facing charges. WHAT THE HELL MORE DO YOU WANT?
Do you honestly believe any Oakland neighborhood is going to be safer because of this? Officers are just going to pass by street muggings and such. Why get out and get involved when you know youre going to get racial insults and threats from whatever side youre not helping and someones bound to have a cel-camera to try to make you seem abusive.

another human being point blank in the back while a crowd watches you clearly shows some kind of mental disorder. Are these cops undergoing any kind of psyc evaluation before there handed a badge and gun.

My younger brother has wanted to be a cop since high school. He did 4 years of Criminal Justice at college, got his degree. Hes pretty smart, and very athletic. He has a better paying job right now for a sales company while applying to various PD’s. A few are full but he got accepted into two towns PD’s. THe background check is INTENSE. First off a very long booklet questionnaire then hours of questioning by the PD’s detectives on your questionnaire, then a few days later a lie detector test which was not easy the guy giving it was as tough on him as he would be a criminal. THEN a few days later the detectives drive 50+ miles to come to the neighborhood where he grew up (where i still live) and asked all our neighbors about him. Whether he drove too fast, whether he had parties or was a bad kid growing up.
The funny thing is if my brother told the same growing up story Barack Obama told he wouldnt be accepted as a cop! Barack admits to a fair amount of drug use and kinda blames it on his father, if that came up during a police interview or one of his neighbors said “yeah he used drugs but his father was a jerk” he would DEFINITELY not be accepted. So you need a Bachelors in CJ and one of the most rigorous background checks ive ever seen to be a cop in CT. I dont know about other states but i imagine theyre similar. Although that BLACK nutcase Antoinette Frank was a cop in early 90’s and all she did was a 3 week training. look her up, it shows that a lot of times when cops are breaking the law its not a big conspiracy but one nutcase cop.
