Dead Prez and The Real World Collide

The most memorable moment from this weekend’s Rock The Bells concert in Chicago really didn’t have too much to do with the music. If you know anything about Dead Prez you know they aren’t really fond of white people. I didn’t feel uncomfortable even though I was sitting in the 6th row. Their set was off the hook from the beginning. During their song Hip Hop we noticed that someone had walked out from the side of the stage during the song, beer in hand, and began dancing and rapping to the song. It was Isaac from The Real World: Sydney. You may remember a few of these memorable moments on the show:

1. When he dressed like this for a Gay Pride parade in Sydney

2. When he got naked and snorkled in the fish tank

3. When he had an “acid flashback” from his high school days and saw a black bird fly across the room which meant that someone in his family died. He later got a call confirming a family death.

After rubbing my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, I confirmed his identity with Eric and Paul who were standing right beside me. He walked out right when Dead Prez hit this part of Hip Hop:

“On sex, drugs, and rock and roll, whether your project’s put on hold
In the Real World, these just people with ideas
They just like me and you when the smoke and camera disappear”

Once M-1 of Dead Prez realized someone was on stage he slowly pushed him off to the side. It really didn’t affect the song at all other than the visual distraction. Isaac disappeared while the amphitheatre security staff freaked out for the next 10 minutes. From what we could tell, after he was pushed off the stage he escaped before being grabbed by security.

Isaac is from Cleveland, Ohio, and is Jewish. Represent.
